Super Mario Galaxy Film Trailer Arrives, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. It was showcased in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.

The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will transport Mario to the outer limits of the galaxy. There, he will encounter a different royal figure and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

A Space-Faring Quest Based on Iconic Releases

In the vein of the games from the Wii period that provide its foundation, Mario will venture away from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will meet again some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.

Yet it looks like Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

All-Star Vocal Ensemble Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers

The film will welcome back of the original voice cast, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.

A Significant Period for Mario

The upcoming Mario film is scheduled to arrive around the time of the 40-year celebration of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Beyond the film, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his allies.

Nintendo confirmed three new games already confirmed for that year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Release Date Confirmed

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
