The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in employing replay systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players will gain the option to challenge certain rulings from the official, echoing the practice currently in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step comes just a year after the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to review specific situations, including:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Importantly, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
A recent example occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
A further change at The Championships this year involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a ball was out or in.
In other news, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
